I wish I could say I don't believe this story, but since I live in the Socailist Republic of Caulifourneea I can believe it.

All I have to say to the asswipes enforcing this bundle of shittiness is "You guys SUCK!!!! Why should we have to suffer because you were deprived as children?"

Of course, that they were deprived is my opinion...I don't know that for a fact..but how else can you explain their over-zealous actions?

Hey Kender! We agree on something! Imagine that...

People are way to occupied in other peoples business. I do not need someone to save me from myself (at least not usually and thats what friends are for :-) )

I'd be raging pissed if someone came and told me to take down a fort built on my property in my back-yard. I might have even bought their argument if it were in the front yard and it looked like crap if they were arguing that it was an eyesore, but safety?

    Bah - people suck.

Hhhmm....we did agree on something. Not so odd. However, if you really, truly, way deep down in your heart felt that you don't need anyone to save you from yourself then you would probably not be such a liberal.

Thta is their agenda you know. To have government as the guardians and keepers of the nation.

    Rebuttal?

I hope to get time to respond to the other stuff soon - kinda busy recently. On this one...

I never labled myself as a liberal - you did. I also never aligned myself with a party. There is no party or political movement that very accurately represents what I want.

However, how your described government sounds like an okay description to me. "guardians and keepers of the nation" Isn't that their job? Their job should be to represent NATIONAL interests and leave the little stuff to us. The government - ideally - should only handle things that are not well handled in the private sector. For instance, things that, if handled by a corporation, would not run very well because the general good would often run contrary to the corporate good. I.E. National Defense, Road Maintenance, Law Enforcement, Health Care, Immigration and basic education. All of these things are (or would be) better run by the government because the overall corporate goal (maximize profits) would run (or does run) contrary to the general good.

Backyard Fort safety management doesn't impact the national good.

    K1,
You are right....'guardians and keepers of the nation' as I put it, does sound good. And in a minimal role. However crawling up the people butts, regulating every little thing and licensing damn near every activity you can think of to make money is too much government.

And I did label you a liberal. Maybe I shouldn't have. But I read your posts, and as much as you seem to be against Bush I can't think of another label. Do you "support the military but not the war"? Check my other blog and email me.

I checked your other blog and didn't see anything on the topic of supporting the military but not the war. (Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?) I did see your snow pics - its cool when snow does that huh? I live in Colorado and we get that kind of thing a couple times a year although we only get it to that extent every couple of years.

However, to answer your question, I definitly support the military. I often thank men and women who I meet that have served for our country. The United States should have the finest military in the world and we (for the most part) do. I think the negative instances that get the most press (stories of American's doing unethical things, Abu Ghraib, etc.) represent only a very small fraction of our soldiers, (like I say, there's always bad apples) and the rest of our military does not deserve to be scorned because of those instances. The only thing I think our military could do better is additional training before we send our troops into a country on the culture and history of that area. I know that we do some of that now, but I think that this could help some of these situations.

However, I think there could be some restructuring of things there. We spent more than our next 15 competitors COMBINED in 2002 and I'm sure it is even more lopsided now. I know that new military technology is important, but I think much of that money that is spent on research and what often seems like new "toys" could be better spent on making sure our troops have all the best armour, gear and other materials they need. In addition, even if we just skimmed the top of the military budget by 5 billion or so, we could fund some great causes here at home, like fully funding (as promised) the No Child Left Behind act and increasing domestic law enforcement budgets.

Do I support the war? Sort of. I think that once you start something that you should complete it. However, I also HATE being lied to. I don't use the word 'hate' much, but I definitly hate that and I definitly feel lied to. If you can't get support for a war by telling the truth about your reasons for it, then perhaps you shouldn't do it. Unfortunately, its all just conjecture (unless you get to have lunch with the president and Cheney and they were uncharacteristically candid with you about why they really decided to go in) about why we really went into Iraq when and how we did. I also strongly dislike incompetence and poor planning, both of which we have seen in abundance from this administration. The long term benefits and dangers of this war are all conjecture as well despite your confidence in your own version of how things will come to pass, so whether or not the end result will be a good or bad thing depends on your outlook.
